6 Things I'll Be Doing Everyday In 2020
I am not a huge fan of New Years resolutions. Instead, I feel like we should all be making monthly goals. One of my goals this year is actually making smaller goals in order to set myself up to achieve them easier. Who else is guilty of setting unrealistic goals + expectations only to fail on the second week of January?
Here’s some quick and pretty achievable everyday things you can do with me this month and this whole year. I promise you’ll have time for them, especially if you follow #1 on the list :)
#1 PUTTING MY PHONE DOWN– UNLESS IT’S FOR QUICK SNAPSHOTS
I am very guilty of opening my phone and doing the casual scroll every once in a while during a “free” moment. Or opening Instagram to post something on my story. Recently, to stay off the social apps, I’ve been taking photos or videos during moments that I want to capture, and then posting them to Instagram later when I have the mental space for the app. I’d rather spend more time on the camera app, creating content rather than consuming content, anyway!
#2 GRATITUDE JOURNALING
I use the Calm app (download here) for quick meditation and gratitude journaling. I love this app because the meditations are great for beginners and quick, like I said. You can also set up reminders on the app to meditate, journal, make lists, or do mood check ins. I have a reminder at 7am to write in 3 things that I’m grateful for. I don’t even have to take out a pen and notebook, cause it’s on my phone! So easy.
#3 TAKING MY MEDS + VITAMINS AT THE SAME TIME EVERYDAY
Why is this one sooo hard? It takes no extra time or even energy. My meds are right there on the counter, but I can’t seem to take them at the same time every day. I am going to really try to focus on this because it directly affects my mood and health! Starting this by putting my meds right by my makeup bag + toothbrush (toothbrush is probably better because we all know makeup doesnt always make it on the face some days). Choose something you know you do every day, and put your meds/vitamins right next to that thing or routine that’s already a habit!
#4 DOING MY POSTPARTUM BREATHING + HEALING EXERCISES
I am currently in the “fourth trimester” with my second babe. I had pretty bad diastasis recti (ab separation) after my first pregnancy, and it never completely healed, so it has gotten a little worse with this pregnancy, as expected. I use an app called Every Mother (download here). The exercises that are on there everyday are specifically designed for the ab separation. They’re mostly focused on breathing and the pelvic floor. I highly recommend the app to any expecting mamas as well, because there are programs for all of the trimesters to prepare your body for birth and postpartum. If you are still reading this paragraph, and you are not pregnant or going through postpartum, you can simply just change this everyday tip to “#4: MOVING MY BODY.” Moving your body does not have to be a full blown workout every single day, cause again, setting unrealistic goals does not end well. You can simply hold yourself accountable to go for a walk!
#5 MAKING MY BED
I did this everyday in 2021, and it made such a difference. If you didn’t accomplish anything that day, you can still say you made your bed! HA!
#6 SPENDING AT LEAST 10 MIN ON MY KINDLE
I really want to read more, because I know it’s just good to, and it’s a different and less distracting escape than what you get from a TV show or movies. I am going to make myself read for a minimum of 10 min each day and then see where that takes me. Again, starting SMALL.
Hope we can achieve these little goals together!
Until next post,
xx Madi
